This is new entry for me since I just joined 3 weeks ago and this would be my favorite entry! hehehe! Sorry!

This is my very first miracle  and precious story and definitely a mommy moment entry.  This is also a very emotional and inspirational as well. It was Saturday September 18, 2004, at 5:00 AM in the morning when I heard my water break and felt a gush. I woke up Brad and told him what was happening and asked him to see what was gushing out because I was afraid to look at it. He confirmed that it was water. I was afraid it would be something else. I felt a little bit of discomfort. I asked Brad to wake up my mother and tell her what was going on. She was wondering why there was no pain at all with my water broken. I guess, based on her experience she was expecting lots of blood and pain.
At around 5:20 am we called the Midwife. I went to the shower while waiting for the Midwife. The Midwife came and checked on me. She listened to the baby’s heartbeat and it was fine. She hesitated to perform an IE because my water had broken. Infection was an issue. While I was in the bathroom, Brad and the Midwife discussed what to do. Brad asked the Midwife if it was possible the counting was incorrect. Base on my LMP as January 08, 2004 I’m 36 + 1 day, or one month early. The Midwife wasn’t sure if I was in labor so she suggested we go to the hospital. We were not ready at all. We had to pack our things from scratch obviously all in very short time. By then I was feeling pain. After we finished packing we went to Guelph General Hospital. The pain was getting more intense and longer. I had to stop walking because I couldn’t walk with the pain anymore. By the time we got to the hospital it was around 7:00. Brad and my mother tried to get me a wheelchair. I didn’t want to because I felt it made me feel like I was incapable. Anyway, we had to find the examining room on the sixth floor. My Midwife and a student Midwife were waiting for us. I changed into a hospital gown which I didn’t like at all.

A resident Obstetrician came and checked on me. He did a quick scan with a portable ultrasound. The placental position was OK and everything else was OK. An IE was performed and I was 3cms. So we moved to my room which was a private room. Wow, I did my labor and delivery in that room! I am very glad that I had my own private room just for me and my baby, and my family of course.
Well, it has been difficult for all of us. Emotions were so obvious: fear, anger, excitement. It was a surprise. I prayed to God that everything would be fine. I was so afraid but I tried to be calm. Brad was so stressed out. We planned to have a homebirth but it didn’t happen.

My labor continued, the pain was getting more intense. I tried different positions: sitting on a ball, in a rocking chair, standing, walking, kneeling in bed, but I ended up lying on my side. Brad was there the whole time rubbing my back. And my Midwives were there too. My Midwife transfered me to an Obstetrician.

The Obstetrician came and checked on me. He found I was 3 cms still. On the other hand I was coping with pain naturally. No pain mangement/ reliever. Brad continously massaged my back. When the doctor came back to check on me again I was 5 cms. The contractions were getting stronger. I was still lying on my side. When the doctor came back for the third time I was fully dilated. The doctor told me to push about three times and the baby was born at 2:15 pm in the afternoon. She was a beautiful little baby girl. Brad cut the cord and then the Midwife and Nurse checked the apgar score, vital signs. They gave her to Brad. And Brad put her on my abdomen. Brad was very proud about being the first to hold Abigail. He said it was very special for him. They referred Abigail to a pediatrician to make sure everything was okay. The pediatrician came and checked Abigail. He said that she was perfect.
His letter stated:
Physical exam revealed a well looking infant, pink and in no distress. The anterior fontanelle was normal. Palate was normal. Both clavicles were present. Chest and cardiovascular exams were normal. Abdominal exam revealed a soft , nondistended abdomen with no organomegaly. CNS exam was normal. Both hips were stable.

In summary, this is near term female infant born naturally at 36+ weeks of gestation. The infant seems to be doing quite well. I suggested to do a baseline blood sugar on the infant and to keep the baby for the time being with Mom.
Conclusion:
We are very happy and blessed to have Abigail Faith in our life. She is a miracle to us. When I hold and look at her I can’t help myself but cry thanking God how blessed we are for giving us this beautiful baby. I think about that baby we lost and how much I miss her/him. And I thank God that Abby is here with us forever.
